You were my little brother and my best best friend. I can't tell you how hard it is to live this life without you. Sometimes I still can't breathe. You can rest knowing that we all had an incredible love for you and we are missing you like crazy. I'm still waiting for this to pass like an episode of a tv show. One day I'll wake up and this will be over - you'll be back like nothing ever happened and I won't even remember having this aching pain for you. Sometimes I imagine that you are watching us grieve like watching all the tv screens at once in the store, one for each of us. Hopefully when you watch me you are still proud of me because Im trying so hard. But more than that I hope that you are in a place where we are all peaceful. Do you know how much I want to come home and have you lift me up and throw me on the couch? Or wrestle me to the floor? Or to have my phone ring and hear your voice say Sammy! Or have you tell me how pretty you are. You really are the most beautiful thing. I miss you, kid. I miss miss miss you. Maybe by the time I see you again Ill know what beats what in poker. Maybe Ill be good enough at pool to beat you every now and then. Maybe Ill know the answers to your dog questions with confidence. Every time I hear or see a hound I think of you and dad and grandpa. Every time I see or hear just about anything it reminds me of you. I'm waiting for the day when that is comforting and not this painful. You touched the lives of everyone you met. You had to be an angel, not everyone has that gift. Not everyone can light up a room and make people laugh. Not everyone has a healing touch and a kind word. You were special. You were always my best time. Now Im struggling to get back to my education. Its not easy, Baby Boy. I look to you to help me through it. You said in your letter to yourself, Go for it, you never really failed anything you wanted to do. You said it about playing football again, but now I say it every time I walk out the door and kiss your picture. I didnt want to leave you alone at night. I wanted to lean into that casket and match our bodies finger tip to finger tip so that I could morph the two of us together and lift up and walk away as a new being. I wanted to let your soul and your spirit and your person melt into me so we could walk away as one and you wouldnt be lost or gone or passed away. I didnt want you to go to a better place. What was so bad about this place? This was the place where we had shared a home, and a room within a home, and a bed within a room. I loved growing up with you, with all of you. You taught me so much. Maybe I didn't teach you enough. Even in your death, I know I will continue to learn lessons from you. You were the most loving, most giving, most hard working, most clever, and generous kid. I wish my kids could have known you. I will always treasure you. Your 21st birthday is around the corner. We'll celebrate together one day, but until then have a drink for me - I'll be having one for you.

My sympathy and condolences extend to my family and friends. Many recollections have passed since one of my most meaningful memories with my cousin (and VERY good friend) Kent, but I will never forget (nor hesitate to smile) when I think of teaching Kent how to drive a standard. While prize possessions might appear meaningless, I feel Kent might have taken the same approach to my clutch. After trying SEVERAL times and finally leaving black marks on the road long enough to examine twice we laughed about it for several years to come. Kent has always been one of my few reasons to continue to keep the car we referred to as the Shelby and as hard as it might be to believe I think he asked about it MORE then it was broke down. We spent countless hours and memories together throughout the years we had together and I will always think of him more of a brother then a cousin.
