Obituary of Steve L. Hovatter

Steve L. Hovatter, 67, of Masontown, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. Steve was born in Morgantown, on March 12, 1954, a son of Clarence Richard Hovatter Sr. and Ida Lou (Quinn) Hovatter. He was in trucking for most of his life and also owned his own autobody shop. He loved working on antique cars and watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke. Steve was strong in his faith and loved and cherished his family above all. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Swecker Hovatter; his children, Kelli Newcome and husband Shawn of Masontown, Matt Hovatter of Arthurdale, Stephanie Hart and husband Justin of Arlington, TX and Erica Womack and husband Harrison of Sisters, OR; one sister, Doris Lacey and husband Jim of Mobile, AL; two brothers, Lloyd Hovatter and wife Deanna of Masontown and Mike Hovatter Sr. and wife Donna of Masontown; 11 grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Zimmerman and three brothers, Clarence "Junie" Richard Hovatter Jr., Jack Hovatter and Jamie Hovatter. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Simpson officiating. Interment will follow in the Gordon Cemetery.
