Obituary of Eva Genevieve Shaffer

Eva G. Shaffer, 91, of Masontown, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Monongalia General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born in Masontown, WV on February 18, 1930, a daughter of the late Roy Dale and Josephine (Molisee) Casseday.

 

Eva was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She was the sweetest, happiest person on Earth. She loved her family and friends. She was a member of the Sturgiss United Methodist Church and contributed to many charities. Eva and her husband Albert owned and operated several successful businesses including Albert Shaffer Trucking (founded in 1956), S & W Industries, Pineview Lanes, Shaffer Car Wash, and several real estate holdings. She loved music, even with her dementia she never forgot a word of her church hymns. She also loved her sweets, especially chocolate.

 

Eva is survived by one son, Larry Shaffer and wife Patti of Arthurdale; one daughter, Linda McGarry and husband Dennis of Stuart, FL; four grandchildren, Timothy Weis and wife Christy, Cynthia Weis, Dr. Christina Canody and husband Jeremy and Jonathon Shaffer and wife Kristi; six great grandchildren; Shane Weis, Stephanie Weis, Andrew Canody, Nicholas Canody, Emily Shaffer and Tyler Shaffer; six great great grandchildren; six brothers, Rev. Lynn Casseday and wife Kathline, Phillip Casseday, Richard Casseday and wife Carolyn, James Casseday and wife Diane, Fred Casseday and wife Iva, and Bob Joe Casseday; one sister, Doylene Davis and many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Albert Shaffer in 2003; twin infant brothers; sister, Arlene Molisee; brother, Junior Casseday; in-laws, George and Darlie Shaffer and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Bolyard.

 

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Monday, August 2, 2021, from 2 - 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 1 pm with Rev. Dr. David Spence officiating. Interment will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.
