Obituary of Carol Iona Koontz

Carol Iona Koontz, 76, of Masontown, WV, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020 at her home with her family by her side. She was born in Independence, WV, on October 31, 1943, a daughter of the late Maxwell Sheets and Gertrude (Sines) Sheets. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was employed at the Pajama Factory in Morgantown, Street's Store in Masontown and then retired from the West Virginia University as a library clerk. She was a member of St. Zita Catholic Church in Masontown and enjoyed sewing, camping, spending time with the family and playing piano. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Edward "Buck" Koontz; one son, Paul Koontz and companion Carla Bell of Morgantown; one sister, Linda Bolyard and husband Colin of Fellowsville; one brother, Joe Sheets of Newburg and three grandchildren, Dillon Koontz of Newburg, Julie Koontz of Masontown and Justin Miller of Pittsburgh; one brother in law, Bob Yvette Koontz; three sisters in law, Patty Koontz, Alfreda Taylor and Dorothy Shaffer; nieces and nephews, Vicki Parks and husband Rick, Bethany Sullivan and husband Josh, Joey Sheets and wife Nancy, Jonathan Sheets and companion Thalia, Troy Bolyard and wife Kelly, Wesley Bolyard and wife, Heather, Chris Parks, Shane Parks, Logan Parks, Jack Koontz and Marcie, Shane Koontz, Clayton Koontz and Brandy, Doug Taylor and Patty, Jimmie Taylor and Debbie, Cheryl Girvin and Steve, Bobby Koontz, Serena Miller, Tabatha Calvert and Bobby, Josh Shaffer and Demee and Rebecca Lambert and Mark; several great nieces and nephews and special friend Doris Sheets. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Sonney Sheets; two infant brothers, David Terry Sheets and Larry Wayne Sheets; three brothers in law, Jack Koontz, Rich Shaffer and June Taylor and one sister in law Ruby Sheets. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Monday, July 6, 2020 from 5 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at the Masontown Cemetery with Father Andrew Switzer as celebrant. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Due to COVID-19, safety precautions will be taken, the social distancing 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests, whose health allows, are to wear a mask. For the safety of everyone, we politely ask that visitors do not linger at the funeral home after seeing the Koontz family.
