Obituary of Victor Friend

Victor C. Friend, 81, of Masontown, WV went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2010 at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 26, 1929 in Morgantown, WV, the son of the late Victor C. and Louisa Snodgrass Friend. He retired from Sterling Faucet in 1992 after 43 years of service. He was a member of St. Zita Catholic Church where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1589 in Masontown, WV and was a former member of the Masontown VFD. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean DiPalo Friend; five sons, Victor III and spouse Becky of Birds Creek, Mark and spouse Tracy of Colorado Springs, Louis and spouse Sherry of Thornton, David and spouse Kimberly of Clearview Pond, and John and spouse Patty of Reedville; 12 grandchildren, Victor IV, Tyler, Marcus, Casey, Jordan, Benjamin, Brandon, Abby, D.R. Caitlin, Colton, and Makenzie; two great grandchildren, Brandon W. and Isabella; three sisters, Doris Gatian of Paden City, Janet Parson of Pawley’s Island, and Alice Sypolt of Glenville; and three special girls in his life, Meredith Blosser, Amanda Cale and Sarah Stewart. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Friend, and a sister, Anna Friend Kennedy. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Monday November 22, 2010 from 3 - 9 pm with the scripture prayer service being held at 7 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Zita Catholic Church in Masontown, WV on Tuesday, November 23 at 10am with the Fr. Arthur Bufogle and Very Rev. Fr. Mark E. Ward, CP, VF as celebrants. Interment will follow at the Masontown Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard, WVANG Honor Guard, and the Preston County Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 977.
