Herb was a kind, quiet man. He was a wonderful neighbor to my family throughout the years. I'm so sorry to hear that another "dear soldier" has passed. My mom enjoyed chatting with him when he would stop by. He was very interesting to listen to during their conversations. Rest in peace ! Our condolences to Leonard and the rest of the family.

Herb:
I don't even know where to begin. While I have only known you for a little more than six months, you have grown to become my "Pappy Herb" like you are to so many others. I thank God that He gave me the opportunity to befriend you during your illness and that you found it worth your while to be my friend.
There is no easy way to express my love or appreciation for you, so the simplest thing that I can say is that I love you and I will miss you. And I will think about you often. And when I think about you and on the times we shared, I will smile.
Your "Second Son,"
Luke

Herb was the very best neighbor. We will really miss having him there. He always had a great story and shared memories. The last we saw him was about two weeks ago, he told us to come back and bring our whole family. May he rest in peace and hope he is in a better place. We loved him, he was very special.

I treasure the memories of Uncle Herb and Aunt Iva being at Grandma Detrick's house on Sunday's and the meals we shared together, of the stories he told me about him and "Dad" being more like brothers, of the stories he told me about working in the woods and cutting timber with "Dad", "Granpap" Ours, "Sonny" Sliger, and Carl Helmick, of the visits to his home, and hospital, of seeing the old rocking chair again that belonged one time to "Grandma" Burgess, then passed on. So many memories. I am so glad that I got to pray with him and know where he is. Gone, but not forgotten. Praying for you Len. Our "Dad"s are together again.
