Obituary of Donald McClure

Donald Ray McClure, 76, of Masontown, passed away on September 15, 2014 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Masontown, WV on August 13, 1938 the son of C. W. Luther and Alta Cale McClure. He attended the Masontown Methodist Church and was a Master Mason, fifty year member of the Grand Lodge of WV, A.F&A.M. Preston Lodge No. 90, and the A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Valley of Morgantown and Valley of Wheeling 32° degree. He was a 1956 graduate of Masontown High School and joined the army immediately after graduation. He worked as a supervisor at Sterling Faucet and owned and operated McClure Trucking and McClure's Exxon. He retired from American General Insurance Company in 2003 following a successful career where he earned numerous awards and trips for his accomplishments. Don enjoyed spending time outdoors including hunting, fishing, beach vacations and family cookouts at home and Cooper's Rock and visits to his daughter's ice cream shop. Don's favorite days were days spent with his family laughing and telling stories. Don was a very kind and generous man with a positive attitude in every situation. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Marilyn Jean Nuce McClure; two daughters and a son, Lydotta McClure Taylor and husband Larry of Morgantown, Don McClure Jr. of Masontown, and Alisa McClure Arnett and husband Roger of Rivesville. He is also survived by two grandchildren that he adored, Kayla Marie Taylor Benson and husband Chad of Morgantown and Cameron Dale Taylor of Morgantown. He is survived by one brother Richard McClure and wife Shirley Pat of Bridgeport and one sister-in-law Shirley Field and husband Joseph of Masontown. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws, Howard and Pauline Nuce, and brother-in-law David Nuce and wife Alice. Family and friends will be received at Field Funeral Home Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held at the Masontown United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 11:00 am with Reverend Dr. Gary Helms and Reverend Sam Starling officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Post #1589 Honor Guard and the Preston County Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 977. Graveside Masonic rites will be conducted by the A.F.&A.M. Preston Lodge No. 90. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown.
