Obituary of John McKinney
John Wesley McKinney, 86, of Masontown passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Reedsville on December 4, 1926, a son of the late Carrie (Costello) and Ray McKinney.
John was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather and brother. He served in the Philippines as a MP for the U.S. Army during WWII. John was a lifetime member of the Masontown VFW Post #1589 and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America . He worked as a coal miner for 38 years starting with the Christopher Coal Company and then the Pursglove #15 until his retirement. He was also a member of the Masontown United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Randy McKinney and Dwaine McKinney and wife Alice Jean all of Masontown; two daughters, Sharon Belmaggio and husband Tom of Morgantown and Sheila DeBastiani and husband Douglas of Zebulon, NC; seven grandchildren, Teresa McKinney, Angie Nicholson and husband Ryan, Lora Quince and husband Rodney, Thomas Belmaggio Jr. and wife Ashley, John Belmaggio, Zachary DeBastiani and fiancée Jennifer Stuart and Wesley McKinney; eight great grandchildren, Trisha Buck, Clifton and Nate Dorsey, Dominic Nicholson, R.J., Christian and Jasmine Quince and Taylor Belle Clement; two great great grandchildren, Travis and Mallory; a sister, Betty Jane Ice of Grantown; several nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Conner and wife Joan and Melvin Blosser and a sister-in-law, Mary Conner.
John is preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma Burhl (Conner) McKinney; four sisters, Ethel Sanders, Helen Ice, Mary McKinney and Easter Belle McKinney; seven brothers, Russell, Ernest, Leonard, William, Keith, James and Bobby McKinney; and a special companion, Yvonne Riley.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the Field Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 with Rev. Sam Starling officiating. Interment to follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard, WVANG Honor Guard and the Preston County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 977.
