Obituary of Carl Smith

Carl Smith, 90, of Masontown, WV, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 14, 1921, in Reedsville, the son of the late James and Lilly Zinn Smith. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked for Austin Powder and Consol Coal, Blackville #2 Local 1702, from where he retired. He was a member of the Masontown Nazarene Church. He had been in failing health the past year. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Allie Smith; two sons, Carl D. Smith and wife Sue Ann of Lenior City, TN and Gerald Smith and wife Elaine of Masontown; one adopted daughter, Melvina Sacone Blaney of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Carla Tallman and husband Jim of Spencer, WV, Gwen Emberly and husband David of Charleston, WV, David Smith and wife Elizabeth of Lenior City, TN, and Daphne Helmich and husband Bill of Prosperity, PA; and six great-grandchildren In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen & Ralph Smith; and one sister, Ercell McDowell. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home, Masontown, WV on Sunday, April 17 from 2 - 4 and 7 -9 pm. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Masontown Church of the Nazarene on Monday, April 18 with the Rev. John Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the Gordon Cemetery in Gladesville.
