Obituary of Robert Lyons

Robert “Bob” Ross Lyons, 86, of Masontown, WV, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at his home. He was born in Gladesville, WV, on December 5, 1924, the son of the late Ross and Mildred Sinclair Lyons, who were Arthurdale homesteaders. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He graduated from Arthurdale High School. He enlisted in the Army on July 24, 1943 and served until March 8, 1946. He drove trucks while serving during WWII. He loved to read books and ride horses. His love of farming was supported with various truck driving jobs in his lifetime including Lonestar Cement Company where he retired from in 1980. He was a lifetime member of Masontown VFW Post 1589. He is survived by two sons, Kevin Lyons and companion, Connie of Masontown and Lyndon “Yarddog” Lyons and companion Wanda of Masontown; one sister, Wilma McKinney and spouse Glenn of Baltimore, MD; six brothers, Ralph Lyons of Franklin, PA, Donald Lyons, Darrell Lyons and spouse Violet, Otis Lyons and spouse Judy, George Lyons and spouse Ann, and Raymond Lyons and wife Evelyn, all of Ohio; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mauceline Bucklew Lyons. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Sunday, January 9 from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9. Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, January 10 at 1pm with Rev. Sonny McNair officiating. Interment will follow in the Gladesville Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard, WVANG Honor Guard, and the Preston County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 977.
