Obituary of James Knotts

James Eldon “Buck” Knotts, age 78, of Masontown formerly of Rowlesburg, passed away Monday January 4, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with his loving family by his side. He was born June 4, 1931 in Tunnelton, a son of the late Jessie Pearl Bolyard Knotts and Ervin Nicholas Knotts He was employed at Sterling Faucet for 38 years and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed in Germany. He was a lifelong member of the Rowlesburg VFW Post #3008. He also volunteered at the Valley District Ambulance Service as a driver and maintenance man for many years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Virginia Tharrell Knotts, three sons; Thomas C. “Poncho” Sigley of Irish Ridge, Eldon “Buck” Knotts and wife Charlotte of Bull Run, and Paul F. Knotts of Masontown; three daughters, Marlene “Bean Bag” Nutter and husband Sammy of Dellslow, Charlene Crowder of Dellslow, and Virginia L. “Flip” Moore of Kingwood; three sisters, Linda Everson, Cathy Smith, and Bessie; 18 grandchildren, Tina, Billy, Kim, Kellie, Sherri, Mike, Becky, Sam Jr., Bryan, Amanda “Mandi”, Melissa, Stephanie, Michael, Travis, Dennie, Chad, Jimmy, and Sheila; 41 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his dogs, Phoebe, Nelly Bell, and Sadie Lane; and his cats and birds. He was preceded in death by one infant son, James Eldon Knotts Jr. five brothers; Everett “Ebb” Knotts, William “Bill” Knotts, Asa Knotts, Anthony “Bink” Knotts and Abraham L. “Bud” Knotts; one sister, Thelma “Tim” Carrico; three infant siblings, Mini, Charles, and Clarence Knotts; one granddaughter, Teresa; daughter in law, Roberta Coldwell Sigley; and two son in laws, Dale Crowder and James A. Moore. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Wednesday January 6, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday January 7, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday January 8, 2010 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald Funk officiating. Interment will follow in the Shay’s Chapel Cemetery in Tunnelton. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard, Preston County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 977, and the WVANG Honor Guard.
