Obituary of Obed Helmick

“Look Out Loretta! Here he comes…” Obed Gerold Helmick, age 67, of Masontown, lost his courageous battle with cancer on January 31, 2010. He was born September 8, 1942 in Ridgley, WV a son of the late Obed Franklin Helmick and Majorie Victoria Bonner Helmick. He was a coal miner for 33 years, an avid fisherman, hockey fan (Go Pens), poker player, and animal lover. Above all he was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his beautiful and caring wife, Sheila Helmick of Masontown. His true pride were his three sons and spouses; Jerry and Kim Helmick of Masontown, Jeff and Laurie Helmick of Point Marion, PA, Greg and Traci Helmick of Woodbridge VA, and his joy was his two daughters, Heather Helmick-Sine of Marco Island, FL, and Tonya Helmick and Dave Plum of Reedsville. He was a grandpa like no other to his 13 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all including his beloved pets, Tad, Jake, Capt. Jack, and Jinx. Cremation services will be provided by the Field Funeral Home in Masontown. A private memorial service will be held in celebration of his life.
