Obituary of Sandra June Cummings

Sandra June Cummings, 79, of Kingwood, WV, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.

 

She was born in Arthurdale, WV, on July 17, 1945, a daughter of the late Rudolph Ward and Wanda (Smith) Ward Strahin.

 

Sandy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Sandy was a graduate of Valley High School Class of 1963. She worked at Kenny Shoe Factory and Preston Memorial Hospital Drug Rehabilitation Program. Sandy was an Avon Lady for 30 years. She loved helping people and was known as "Grandma Sandy" to many. She loved flowers and the butterflies that were always drawn to them. She also enjoyed "bologna sandwich" picnics and any excuse to spend time with her family.

 

Sandy is survived by two daughters, Alisa D. LaRue and husband Jerry of Arthurdale and Kimberly A. Calhoun and husband Rick of Kingwood; five grandchildren, Britney LaRue Dixon and Hannah, Brian LaRue and Brittany, Steven Thorn and his closest friend Chris, Erinn Johnson and Adam, and Savannah Calhoun; three great grandchildren, Bailey and Oliver Titus, and Adeline LaRue; one brother, Bo Ward and companion Linda DuPont of Arthurdale; two sisters, Wilma Hershman and husband George of Grafton and Carolyn Wheeler of Kingwood; the father of her children, Carl Cummings and his companion Margaret Tucker; many loving nieces and nephews; former son-in-law, Budd Thorn; former grandson-in-law, Jason Titus and her many friends and members of her “fan club”.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton DeWitt and companion Theodore "Hugh" Fredrick.

 

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 2 - 4 and 6 – 8 and Friday, August 16, 2024, from 10 am until the 12 pm time of service with Pastor Chris Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.
