Obituary of Patricia Ann Reese
Patricia Ann Reese, 81, of Westover, WV, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at Morgantown Healthcare Center.
She was born in Morgantown, WV on October 2, 1942, a daughter of the late David Cyrus and Virginia (Stewart) Reese.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Her career as a Monongalia County art teacher began when she was a student teacher at the old Sabraton Junior High School. She was hired as a Mon County art teacher in 1974, teaching at the former Westover Junior High School, South Junior High and retired from University High School in 2004. As a teacher she was loved and respected by her students and many considered her a mentor.
In addition to her classroom expertise, she was also active in local and state art education associations. She was an active contributor to LOGO, an art education newsletter initiated by Monongalia County art teachers. LOGO, which featured local art education achievements, won the National Art Education Association's national newsletter award during the 1980s. LOGO eventually expanded to become a West Virginia newsletter for the West Virginia Art Education Association. Pat also attended and contributed to WVAEA and NAEA conferences and conventions. She also served as the art curriculum coordinator for Monongalia County, retiring in 2004.
As an artist, she was skilled in pen and ink drawing, printmaking and calligraphy. She often volunteered to hand letter certificates in schools where she taught. She exhibited her art locally and statewide. Her "Calla Lilly III" was selected for exhibit at the prestigious Biannual Juried Exhibition in 1991, which toured the state for a year and was sponsored by the West Virginia Cultural Center in Charleston. She and a colleague painted the mural in the gymnasium at South Middle School. She created her own work in her personal studio, at Zen Clay in Morgantown, where she also organized exhibits, staged window displays and created signs.
Patricia loved her dogs but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family.
Patricia is survived by one son, Keith Nolan of Arthurdale; two grandsons, Richie Nolan and wife Sarah of Arthurdale and Zach Nolan of Masontown; one great grandson, Arlin Nolan; a brother, Jimmy Reese and wife Betty of FL and a sister-in-law, Donna Reese.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Reese and one sister, Brenda Friend and her husband Ronald.
To honor her wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to the Field Funeral Home in Masontown. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
