Obituary of Margaret E Ursic

Margaret Volk Ursic, age 95, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023, with her loving family by her side.

She was born to Anton Volk and Mary Glazer Volk in a mining camp in Burke, West Virginia, and raised on the family farm in Reedsville.

She graduated from Valley High School in Masontown in 1946 and from Fairmont State Teachers College in 1951. During her studies, she taught deaf children and traveled to Mexico for a class. Margaret's first teaching job was in the one room schoolhouse at Plainview before teaching in other Preston County schools for six years. She also spent a year teaching on an army base in Landshut, Germany. While visiting relatives in Slovenia, she met her husband John Ursic on the Orient Express in Trieste. They were married in 1958, had two daughters in Pittsburgh PA, then moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina for two years.

For the next four decades, the family lived in Greenwich, Connecticut. Margaret dedicated herself to supporting her daughters' education and musical pursuits and served as their Girl Scout leader for ten years. She enjoyed substitute teaching and volunteered at St. Catherine of Siena Church and Greenwich Hospital.

Margaret moved back to Reedsville in 2003 after her husband passed away. For 18 years, she had the joy of living on the land she loved among her siblings and their families. She had a sympathetic ear and was always interested in what others had to say and learning new things. She was a kind person with a loving, generous heart, and a deep faith in God. She loved children, flowers, birds, reading, and a good laugh. She volunteered with the Altar Society at St. Zita's Church and was a member of the Preston County Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are her two daughters, Elizabeth Ursic of Phoenix AZ; Katherine Ursic and husband James Wendering and daughter Grace Wendering of Sacramento CA; brother Joseph Volk and wife Jennie Volk, and two sisters-in-law Jessie Volk and Beverly Volk.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her siblings Frank Volk, Rose Gerard and Edward Volk.
