Obituary of James Martin
James O. Martin, 91, of Reedsville, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Madison Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown.
He was born in Corinth, WV on September 30, 1923 a son of the late Oscar and Ada (Bosley) Martin.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. James received the Purple Heart during his service in the US Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1589. He worked as a coalminer for Reliable Coal and Morgan Mines.
James is survived by four daughters, Patty Leggett and husband Jerry of Reedsville, Helen Bolyard of Kingwood, Linda Martin of Reedsville and Frances Martin and companion Roger Cole of Terra Alta; four sons, James "Sonny Martin and wife Wanda of Morgantown, Terry Martin and wife Linda of Masontown, John Martin and wife Ruth Ann of Kingsland, GA and Richard Martin of Reedsville; 14 grandchildren and spouses, Tammy and Rodney Liston, Michelle Thorn and companion Bobby Shrout, Jerry Leggett, Jr., James "Jimmy" and Jennifer Martin, Monica and Eric Marietta, Tom and Tracy Martin, Lisa Martin, Tim Bolyard, Brian and Lori Patterson, Tapha and Adam Sears, Tia and Tym Anderson, Haly and Kevin Sines, Larissa and Jason LaCavera and Sarah Martin; 22 great grandchildren ; one great great grandson and one sister-in-law, Merle Mathew of Warren, OH.
In addition to his wife, Iva, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Lea Martin; one granddaughter, Brenda Lee Bolyard; one grandson, John William Martin, Jr.; one great granddaughter, Kayla Martin; five sisters and spouses, Jenny and Howard Hershman, Dorothy and Ernest White, Betty and Bryon Ervin, Maxine and Laurence Taylor and Iva Moore; one half brother, John Henry and spouses Edna and Gretchen.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Field Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Long officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the WVARNG Honor Guard, Preston County VFW Honor Guard and the Preston County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 977.Interment will follow at the Masontown Cemetery.
