Obituary of Carlton McKinney

Carlton L. McKinney, Sr., 90, of Reedsville, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at Heartland of Preston County in Kingwood. He was born in Masontown on August 18, 1923, a son of the late Hazel (Fazenbaker) and Paul E. McKinney. Carlton was the founder and CEO of the Bull Run Mining Company until the time of his retirement. He was also a former mayor of Masontown. Carlton was a 50 year member of Preston Lodge #90 and was a 32˚ Mason. He was a Shriner for over 50 years. Carlton was a former member of the Elks as well as a 50 year member of the Preston County Country Club. Carlton was a WWII Veteran serving in the European Theater as a member of the US Army. He was also a member of the Masontown United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary McKinney; a daughter, Kimberly Mayor and husband Kevin of Reedsville; a son, Carlton McKinney Jr. and wife Barbara of Bruceton Mills. He is also survived by his grandchildren and their children, Meredith Blosser and husband Chuck and children, Jordan and Carter; Amanda Cale and husband Dave and children, Symantha, Keira and Kameron; Holly Rowan and fiancé Craig Shaffer and children, Bailey and Addie; Sarah Stewart and husband Scott and children, Alexis, Olivia and Isabelle; Nathaniel Mayor and wife Michelle and children, Maya, Bree, Sydney and Payten. Carlton was preceded in death by one brother, Paul McKinney Jr. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Heartland staff for their wonderful caregiving. They would also like to extend their gratitude to a special friend, Kay Wolfe and special caregiver Misty Keener. Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, January 9, 2014 from noon until the 1 p.m. service time at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. David Chedester officiating with grandson, Nathaniel Mayor to have the eulogy. Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County VFW Honor Guard and the Preston County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 977. Interment will follow at the Masontown Cemetery.
