Obituary of Howard Burge

Howard D. Burge, 87, of Masontown, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born November 21, 1925, in Albright, the son of the late Elzy Shannon and Isa Rebecca (Bolyard) Burge. He was a 1944 graduate of Kingwood High School and a 1949 graduate of Potomac State College. Howard served his country from 1944-1946 in the US Navy, aboard the USS Antietam. He was a member of the VFW Post #1589, the Preston County Country Club, Masontown United Methodist Church and he was a 32nd Degree Mason at the Preston Lodge #90 of Kingwood. Howard worked for Preston County Coal & Coke for 31 years as a bookkeeper. Howard enjoyed his life spending time with his family and many friends. He loved many years of hunting, fishing, golfing and gardening. He also enjoyed his time with the Morning Masontown Coffee "gang". Howard is survived by one brother (and his best friend in life), Linzy (Ink) Burge and his wife Marcel of Preston County Country Club; two step sons, Don Witt and wife Beth and Ron Witt and wife Susie all of Masontown; three grandchildren; Josh Witt, Tracy Wolfe and husband Jimmy of Pentress and Stephanie Shepherd and husband Jason of Morgantown; 5 great grandchildren, Emily and Elizabeth Witt, Rachel and Amanda Wolfe and Whitley Shepherd; a great granddaughter, Aulbree Heard and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 year, Glenna "Nana" Burge; seven brothers and two sisters. In honoring Howard's wishes he will be cremated and there will be no memorial service. Donations may be made in Howard's memory to the Hospice Care Corp., Po Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520. The Field Funeral Home in Masontown is in charge of arrangements.
