David Ray Gower, 60, of Kingwood, WV, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, WV.

He was born in Kingwood, WV, on December 10, 1965, a son of the late John Donald Gower and Frances Hope (Teets) Gower of Manown, WV.

Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He cherished every moment spent with his family; they were always the center of his world. Dave was extremely proud of his boys. He would always brag about Ethan's accomplishments and his nursing career; he would flaunt Brandon on following in his footsteps in the coal mines. The achievements of his children would not be possible without the woman who stood through everything. Julie's love for Dave was nothing but pure. They were not only husband and wife but also the best of friends. The deep love and devotion they shared was evident to everyone, shining brightly at every moment they spent together.

He was a 1984 graduate of Kingwood High School. Dave was a dedicated coal miner with Marion Coal Company for over 25 years where he created a brotherhood and strong friendships. He was a faithful attendee of the Independent Baptist Church of Kingwood, where he proudly lived out his Christian faith and studied the Bible to know and understand God's word.

Known for his warm smile and kind spirit, Dave brought joy wherever he went. He spent much time outdoors, farming, gardening, digging potatoes, camping, fishing, hunting, and going for drives. He found happiness in life's simple pleasures. Dave's genuine love for others, lending a helping hand when needed, unwavering faith, and cheerful presence will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his mother, Dave is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Julie Ann (Martin-Brake) Gower; sons, Ethan Gower and Brandon Brake and wife, Joyce; two grandchildren, Joslyn Ann "Punkin" Brake and Kolbie Ray "Peanut" Brake; two brothers, John Gower and wife, Susie, and Claude Gower; two sisters, Alice Maxwell and husband, John, and Kimberly Gower; mother-in-law, Janet Martin; several nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Dave is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Evelyn Teets, and father-in-law, Warren "Sonny" Martin.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 11 am until the 12-noon time of service with Pastor Terry Cumberland officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood, WV.
