John Charles Reckart Obituary

John Charles Reckart, 93, of the Cuzzart Community, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.


 


He was born in Morgantown, WV on December 10, 1932, a son of the late S. Denton and Minnie (Kelly) Reckart.


 


John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. John and his beloved wife, Eleanor were the first couple to be married there in 1955. John worked in trucking and coal mining for Kingwood Mining and Patriot Coal until his retirement. He loved animals, especially horses, which he had his entire life. John also loved golf and baseball, he couldn't wait for the games to air on TV.


 


John is survived by his daughter, Monta Lawson and husband, Brad of Bruceton Mills; son, Joseph Reckart and wife, Diane of Bruceton Mills; five grandsons, Chad Lawson and wife, Abby, Jared Lawson and wife, Emily, Brody Lawson and his companion Shelby Dillsworth, Joe Reckart and wife, Heather and Derek Reckart; eight great grandchildren, Gaaron, Adley, Julia and Josephine Lawson and Jordyn, Jase, Blake and Natalie Reckart; two sisters-in-law, Liz Peaslee and Polly Livengood; many loved nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Fox and Kitty Cat.


 


In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor Ruth (Cramer) Reckart; one son, John S. "Jay" Reckart; and his infant sister, Janet Ann; five brothers-in-law, Charley Cramer, Denver Cramer, Charles Livengood, Charles Feather and Loye Peaslee.


 


To honor John's wishes, Field Funeral Home will provide professional and compassionate cremation services. A graveside service will be held on June 20, 2026, at 11 am at the Centenary Cemetery with Pastor Mike Argabrite and Pastor Marvin Frankhouser officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and the WVANG Honor Guard.
