James Wakefield Metz, 85, of Reedsville, WV, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at home.

He was born in Tunnelton, WV on March 2, 1940, a son of the late Rowler and Catherine (Castle) Metz.

James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed being outdoors, working on cars, camping, or working in the garden. He also enjoyed music, playing his guitar and loved animals. James was proud that at 85 he was still able to be out cutting firewood. He proudly served his country in the United State Air Force. James drove truck for several local trucking companies, and he also drove school bus for the Preston County Bus Garage.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Laura (Becker) Metz of Reedsville; one son, Joshua Metz and companion Ashley McDaniel of Morgantown; three daughters, Sarah Williams and husband, Justin of Morgantown, Marcia Metz and Barbie Baggett and husband, William of Ashville, NC; a sister, Janet Kelly of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren, Elliott and Stella; furbaby, Harley and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Wesley Metz; one daughter, Brenda Metz and two brothers, Keith Metz and Allen Metz.

To honor James wishes professional and compassionate cremation services will be provided by Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV. There will be a private family celebration of his life at a later date.
