John Henry Poling Sr., 80, of Masontown, WV, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Fellowsville, WV on May 25, 1945, a son of the late Christopher C. and Foster Mae (Runner) Poling.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. John served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He delivered newspapers for the Dominion Post for 17 years with his wife Rosa Lee, they often took their grandchildren on their morning routes with them. He also worked for Greer Industries doing several jobs, including driving truck from 1970 to 1992. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. John also enjoyed gospel and country music, watching westerns on TV and CB radios. He was a life member of the Earl Anderson Marine Corps League Detachment 342 of Morgantown and attended the Christian Evangelical Church Gospel Lighthouse of Newburg.

John is survived by his loving wife, Rosa Lee (Molisee) Poling of Masontown; children, Tammy Weaver and husband, Danny of Tunnelton, Shirley Sigley and husband, Amos of Newburg, John Poling Jr. and wife, Heather of Moatsville, Joseph Poling and wife, Maddie of Moatsville and Katie Dawson and husband, Chris of Bruceton; stepdaughter, Cynthia McCloud and husband, David of Kingwood; 19 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lois Shaffer and Mary Deahl; former wife, Martha Poling of Newburg and special friends, Lee and Ruthie Hall.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kristie Poling; great granddaughter, Paisley Sigley; stepfather, William Poling; stepbrother, Woodrow Poling; two brothers-in-law, James Molisee and Richard Molisee and a sister-in-law, Laura Menear.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the aides and nurses of Amedisys Hospice and the Preston Senior Center for the compassion and care for John and his family.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 2 to 7 pm and on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 10 am until the 12-noon time of service with Chaplin Nick Bolyard, officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery in Pruntytown. Military Honors will be accorded by the Marine Corps Funeral Honor Guard and the Preston County Honor Guard.
