John Floyd Lamar, Jr., also known as "Scooter" and "Huggie Bear," age 38 of Morgantown, WV, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born on October 21, 1987, in Morgantown, WV, the son of Peggy (King) Lamar, and the late John Lamar, Sr.
Scooter worked at Harrison County Mine and later outside at the prep-plant. He was a devoted fireman for the Triune Halleck VFD and the Masontown VFD. Scooter did not know a stranger and would help anyone in need. He loved fishing with his family any chance he got and hunting and trapping with his son, JD.
In addition to his mother, Scooter is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Megan Lamar; two children whom were his entire world, John Daniel (JD) and Elena Grace; sisters, Peggy Sue (Greg) and Amanda (Jeremiah) and their children; mother and father-in-law, Dan and Kim Freeland; brother-in-law, DJ (Riley); sister-in-law, Hayley (Rick) and their children, and many special friends who he classified as his family.
The family would like to give a heart felt appreciation to Triune Halleck, Clinton District, and all the first responders for their help during this time of immense loss.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 2:00 pm until the 6:00 pm time of service with pastor Donna Dalton officiating. To honor his wishes, John will then be cremated. Professional and compassionate cremation services will be provided by the Field Funeral Home.
