Hector Darwin Taylor Obituary

Hector D. Taylor, 97, of Masontown, WV passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 23, 2025.


 


He was born May 28, 1928 in Masontown, a son of the late James Harvey and the late Grace Taylor.


Hector was a proud and hardworking man who spent much of his life employed in the steel mills, dedicating decades of service to an industry that helped shape the backbone of our nation. Known for his strong work ethic and quiet resilience, Hector was a man who found pride in a job well done. In retirement, Hector remained active and social, spending his days doing what he loved most, visiting with friends, sharing stories, and playing cards. He brought warmth, humor, and a touch of mischief to every gathering. Hector's humility, and unwavering kindness touched all who knew him.


He is survived by one son, Michael Taylor of Masontown; six grandchildren, Renee Thompson, Kayla Fortney, Michael Taylor, Larry Bolyard, Candance Freeman, and Sarah Vermeulen; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lisa Fortney and one brother, Max Taylor and wife, Samantha of Warren, OH.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Smith Taylor; one son, Rodney Taylor; three daughters; Patricia Bolyard, Crystal Kincade and Amy McGinnis; five grandchildren, Cynthia Lee McGinnis, Jennifer JoAnn Lee, Jason Allen Lee, Charlotte Greathouse and Georgianna Mitter and great grandson, Kirk "KC" Blythe.


Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 am on Thursday, August 28, 2025 with Pastor Sam Moon officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown.
