Sandra Kay "Doll" Holmes, 73, of Independence, WV, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, MD.
She was born in Grafton, WV, on March 7, 1952, a daughter of the late Joe Swajnos and Semma Christine Swajnos.
Doll was a 1970 graduate of Newburg High School. She was employed at WVU Medicine JW Ruby Memorial Hospital as a Revenue Cycle Support Specialist for over 40 years.
Doll's most significant accomplishment was raising her three children, whom she held as her pride and joy. Her legacy is one of unyielding kindness and generosity. Even when she was sick or in pain, she never faltered in loving and caring for her children and grandchildren. Everyone will most fondly remember Doll for her beautiful smile and delicious German Chocolate and Applesauce cakes.
Doll was blessed with a green thumb and knew all the tricks to gardening and tending for flowers. She shared her favorite pastime of canning with her children. Doll enjoyed shopping and her all-time favorite place was the beach.
Even after life, she continued to help others with the decision to gift the needful with organ and tissue donation.
Doll is survived by her three children, Butch Wiles (Jamie), Anita DeWitt (Ron), and Janette Riley (Eric); three stepchildren, Rita Jo Willis, Sherri Trickett (Brad), and Loretta Brewer (Roger); 21 grandchildren, Bethany Wiles, Shane Wiles, Jesse Wiles, Peyton Wiles, Jamie Simpson, Cody Workley, Bub DeWitt (Nicole), Gracelynn DeWitt, CeAnna DeWitt, Gunner DeWitt, Brandon Riley, Austin Riley, Josh Willis, Cordel Willis, Sarah Willis, Courtney Riggs, Emma Trickett, Carley Trickett, Alton Brewer, Holly Brewer, and Summer Fearer; 29 great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Swajnos and Patricia Biggs (Brad); several nieces and nephews, and many who adopted her as "Grandma Doll."
In addition to her parents, Doll is preceded in death by her loving husband, Spurgeon Holmes and brother, Franklin "Butch" Swajnos.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Skylar Linderman officiating. Interment will follow at Gladesville Cemetery in Independence.
