Prentiss Elwood "P.T." Taylor Obituary

Prentiss “PT” Taylor Sr., 81, of Masontown, WV, passed away peacefully at home Sunday June 8, 2025, surrounded by his family.


 


He was born on June 20, 1943, a son of the late Goff and Stella (Mayfield) Taylor of Bull Run Rd, Masontown, WV.


 


He was a life member of the Post 1589 VFW in Masontown, where he served several years as Commander; a life member of the Military Order of the Cootie; a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America; a life member of the Huntington No.2 Disabled American Veterans; a life member of the NRA; and a life member of the North American Hunting Club and a member of the Valley Sportsman’s Association. Prentiss was a member of the Morgantown Moose Lodge 264; a member of the Mountaineer American Legion Post 174; and a member of the Alliance for Retired Americans.   


 


Prentiss proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator at Patriot Mining where he retired. Prentiss has courageously fought and survived cancer since 2010.


 


Prentiss was married to his loving wife of 64 years, Judy (Molisee) Taylor, on December 6, 1961. They had two children, Prentiss Taylor Jr. (Jody) of Newburg and Kimberly Taylor Shaffer of Masontown; grandson, Harry W. Dalton II (Willy) and his children, Zander, Grayson, and Brooks; granddaughter, Penelope Shaffer; grandson, Baretta Hershman Taylor and granddaughter, Makala Taylor and her children, Taylin, Weston, and Ainsley; and a sister Dottie Deahl of Reedsville, WV., the last member of his immediate family.


 


In addition to his parents, Prentiss was preceded in death by his brothers, Willie Taylor, Leland Taylor, Roscoe Taylor, and Cliff Taylor; sisters, Janet Cobb and Florence Taylor Smith; many nieces and nephews; Shirley Hammack and Nancy Riffle, whom both visited him often, and a very special family friend, Pamela Wilson.


 


A very special thanks to Hospice Care, the West Virginia Cancer Center and the VA of Clarksburg, to the doctors, nurses, and social workers that helped care for him and gave him a better life; especially D.J., Christy, Scott, and Lawrence. A very special thank you to his wife, Judy, who cared for him for the last years of his life. He had several special camp friends from Pratt's Campground and the Sunny Inn where he enjoyed spending most of his time.


 


Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, from 2:00 pm until the 4:00 pm time of service with Rev. Ray Frankhouser officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the Preston County Honor Guard VFW Post 1589 of Masontown and the WVANG Honor Guard. As per his request, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be buried at several of his favorite places.
