Carl Lee Cottrell, 78, of Masontown, WV, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home with family by his side. He was a highlight to everyone's day and loved by so many. He will surely be missed.

He was born on February 2, 1947, in Garrettsville, OH, the son of the late Claude R. Cottrell and Elizabeth K. (Shaffer) Cottrell.

Carl served in the Vietnam War and was a lifetime member of Chapter 977 Preston County Veterans. He worked for Ohio Valley Paving in his younger years and formally retired from Cato Drilling. Carl had a passion for old cars and enjoyed spending time in his garage with his grandson rebuilding old cars and tinkering. His greatest joy was his family.

Carl is survived by his wife, Wanda Cotterll; two daughters, Virginia Cottrell and Kathy Cottrell Casteel (Jimmie) of Masontown; two sons, Harvey Johnson of Morgantown and Roger Johnson of Masontown; five grandchildren, Jeremy Casteel (Sarah Areheart), Hunter Bee, Macy Johnson, all of Masontown, Samantha Sell and Grace Johnson both of Morgantown; five nieces, Tina Casto (George), Sherry Fertik (Earl) both of Garrettsville, OH, Tammy, Lori, and Joretta of Big Pool, MD, and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Sharon Cottrell; two sisters, Carol Casto and Martha Kool, and one son-in-law, Rusty Smeltzer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carl's memory to the Field Funeral Home, 10537 Veterans Memorial Hwy, Masontown, WV 26542, to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 4:00 pm until the 6:00 pm time of service with Rev. Ray Frankhouser officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Preston County Honor Guard and the WVANG Honor Guard. To honor his wishes, cremation services will be provided by the Field Funeral Home.

The family invites you to a dinner reception at the Sturgis United Methodist Church, 1846 Snake Hill Road, Masontown, WV 26542, to share food, fellowship, and memories following the funeral service on Thursday.
